Treat Work Like Going to the Movies

As busy Medical Affairs professionals, staying on task and completing high-priority tasks is challenging! The demands on our schedules are insane. This makes being strategic and being impactful tough. Here’s a great mindset hack to be more productive: Treat work like going to the movies.

Key Takeaways

Visualize yourself when you go to the movies. You have:

🎥Turned off distractions. I.e. your phone.

🎥Gone to the bathroom and have your snacks ready.

🎥Mentally prepared yourself to sit and be fully immersed in the movie for a couple of hours.

This is the mindset you should apply every time you sit down to get work done.

Treat Work Like Going to the Movies

When you go to the movies you are prepared to sit and focus for 2-3 hours. Take this same mindset to your work sessions. Tell yourself you are going to focus on work for the next 60 minutes (or whatever amount of time you have). Then do the work. Do whatever it takes to prepare your brain and your environment to really focus on getting your work done.

I noticed that if there are any other things open on my computer my brain gravitates towards them. If that other open thing has a notification (like LinkedIn or Gmail), it’s game over. I am checking it constantly without even thinking about it.

What are some distractions that make it hard for you to focus on work?

Try out the “Treat work like going to movies” mindset shift and let me know how it works for you!
