3 AI Game-Changers Medical Affairs Can’t Afford to Ignore this Month
AI is becoming like that one smell in your house you’ve stopped noticing. The smell isn’t bad. It’s always there. So eventually, your brain tunes it out.
That’s what AI feels like right now, with all the new advancements. There’s something new launching almost every day. A new tool, a new feature, a new headline. At some point, it all starts to blur, and now really helpful things barely register.
And here’s the twist: many people in Medical Affairs still aren’t using AI at all. Some are against it:
“I don’t trust it.”
“I can do it better.”
Some haven’t seen how useful it can be. Or the tools feel overwhelming and the learning curve feels high:
“I’m not sure which tool to start with.”
“I don’t know what to do with it.”
I get it. Most folks are just trying to get through the week (get some time-management tips here).
That’s where this article comes in. I’ve teamed up with my friend and fellow AI-in-Medical-Affairs expert Vivek Mukhatyar to cut through the noise and help you focus on what actually matters.
Here are 3 AI game-changers Medical Affairs should know about from the past month and that are worth your attention. They’re practical. They’re available now. And a few might already be built into tools you use every day.
Let’s take a look 👇
1️⃣ OpenAI’s New Image Generator Is Finally Worth Using
I’m just going to say it. The earlier versions of OpenAI’s image generator were weird. People had too many fingers. Faces looked off. Prompts had to be rewritten again and again just to get something usable. And they still felt off. Like this image 👇
Now? The new version actually works.
It produces much more realistic, helpful images that are perfect for sketching out ideas or clarifying complex concepts. Not only that, it can actually produce readable text!
Why this is one of the top 3 AI game-changers for Medical Affairs (see an example of an infographic I made below:
- You want a quick visual to help understand a mechanism of action
- You’re prepping for an internal strategy session and need a graphic to help visualize your ideas
- You’re brainstorming and want to think more visually
This isn’t about creating final materials or skipping med-legal review. It’s about making early thinking easier and more creative.
It’s still not perfect, but Vivek shares a great tip in our video on how to fix this with the editor. Go over to ChatGPT and try it out. Then share with us! It’s pretty fun.
Check out this infographic I created from my MAPS 2025 recap article. I pasted in the article and created an image. It’s pretty good!
2️⃣ Deep Research Is Now Free in Gemini and It’s a Total Game-Changer
Deep research is probably one of the most impactful AI tools for MSLs. Deep Research lets you generate a structured, citation-backed research report on any topic. It pulls from trusted sources and organizes the information into a cohesive summary. In other words, it helps you learn fast and think strategically without the usual PubMed rabbit holes.
I felt bad for writing about it, though, because it cost money. There are already a lot of other barriers to use besides monthly subscription fees.
But breaking news! The Deep Research feature inside Gemini, formerly locked behind the $20/month paid plan, is now included for free in Google Workspace.
Why this belongs on our list of 3 AI game-changers Medical Affairs:
- It’s perfect for onboarding into a new TA
- It helps you prep for KOL meetings more deeply
- You can use it for congress prep, competitive intel, or clinical trial landscape reviews
In our full Deep Research article, we shared how this tool can turn MSLs into instant disease state experts, along with a prompt tailored to MSLs.
And in the video, Vivek gives a few more deep research tools tips. Check it out! For more creative ways on how you an use AI and some prompting tips, download this guide.
3️⃣ Copilot Just Dropped New Features: Including Deep Research and Podcast Generation
Microsoft recently announced major upgrades to Copilot, and some of the new features are especially relevant to Medical Affairs.
Two standouts:
- A built-in Deep Research tool that helps you explore complex topics in Copilot
- The ability to generate podcast-style audio summaries from documents and scientific papers
If that sounds familiar, it should. We’ve covered how helpful these features are in our articles on NotebookLM for MSLs and how to turn papers into AI podcasts. Some of you were worried about whether your company would allow you to use it. Now, Microsoft is baking them right into tools you probably are already allowed to use.
Why this makes our list of 3 AI game-changers for Medical Affairs:
- The Deep Research tool offers another way to prep deeply for KOL meetings, congresses, or internal strategy sessions
- Podcast generation helps you stay on top of the literature during commutes, walks, or between meetings
- And best of all: you may already have access through your company’s Microsoft 365 license
Reach out to your manager or IT colleagues to see if this feature is on the roadmap.
Final Thoughts: 3 AI Game-Changers Medical Affairs Can’t Afford to Ignore
You don’t need to chase every new AI feature. You would probably need to quit your Medical Affairs job to test everything out! Instead focus your energy on these announcements.
These 3 AI game-changers for Medical Affairs are worth noticing. They’re not hype. They’re useful tools that can make your job easier, your thinking clearer, and your day a little less overwhelming.
So if you’ve been feeling behind, unsure where to start, or like AI just isn’t for you, start here.
